… a MellOnWheels Product Review
As you may have read in My Little Teardrop Kitchen & Galley Accessories blog post, I was not a happy camper when it came to my camping blender. That thing was horrible and wouldn’t even chop ice, much less blend it. Plus, it was huge! On our last camping trip… that one went into the dumpster. It was time to buy a new one.
Having a blender, is not an option for me. I have to have a blender. I drink a fruit smoothie, every single morning… and sometimes I have a second one, for lunch. I also use my blenders for soups and sauces. At home, I use my blender at least twice a day… sometimes more often.
So, I was looking for something small, but powerful. I came across this most excellent Hamilton Beach Single-Serve Blender. The online reviews were astounding! There were tons of reviews and almost every one was 5-Stars. I don’t think I saw a single review, under 4-Stars. And, it was tiny! For $15.92 on Amazon.com… and right around the same price on Walmart.com. I could not pass up the opportunity to try it.
Well, I used it to make my breakfast smoothie, this morning. I’ll wash it and pack it away (until I can put it in the camper)… but, I just had to try it out and make sure it worked well.
The blender “pitcher” is actually a travel cup with a slide-closed drinking hole in the lid. The lid snaps on very tightly. Put the ingredients into the travel cup, snap the lid on the top, put it in the blender… turn to lock it in place, and blend. Then, you can turn to unlock, and take the entire travel cup with you.
I forgot to take a picture of what I had in the blender. But, I put “frozen solid” whole strawberries and blueberries (about 1/4 of the way up). I added a tablespoon of ground flax, a tablespoon of cocoa powder, and a few packets of Truvia. I filled it to about 1/4-inch from the top, with my Almond Milk.
I snapped the lid onto the travel cup, put it into the blender, and turned to lock. Then I swear to you… I hit the “pulse” button (which is the only button on it) for 1-second, five times. I could not believe it! 5 one-second pulses and this is what I had! This is the most amazing little blender I’ve ever seen. This tiny blender has the power that my expensive (but dead) Vitamix had. Honestly!
The reviews seemed to indicate that these blenders last a long time, but I love it so much, I think I’m going to invest in another one. Hey, I’ll part with a $20 bill, and put one in the cabinet for safe-keeping… just in case something happens to this one.
