“Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme.”
~ Simon & Garfunkel
I was sitting in Downtown Branson traffic, one evening, and I noticed a spice shop that I had never seen, before. So, the next morning, I headed to “The Spice Agent“, which is
located at 105 East Main Street, in Downtown Branson Missouri.
Their phone number is 417-544-1905, and “The Spice Agent” can also be found on facebook. For those who are familiar with Downtown Branson, it is located between “The Classy Flea” and Walgreens. They are open 7-days a week, until 6pm.
Even though I expected to find good spices, I planned to only buy a few things, because this type of shop is generally very expensive. I was shocked! These spices were no more than the McCormick spices that you find in the grocery store. Every spice is available in a tiny glass “French Canning Jar”, with the wire-locking lid. I am going to have ChefOnWheels make me a little shelf for the Teardrop Kitchen/Galley, so I can display our camping spices… in those pretty little French Canning Jars. Most all of the spices were available in different sizes. Most were also available in small cellophane bags…perfect for refilling the little jars.
When you first walk into the store, it doesn’t look like the store has much stock. However, I guess spices don’t take up much room, because as it turned out, it was very well stocked. I found the usual spices, and I found spices that I had never tried… but had always wanted to try. There were also some that I was not familiar with. The owner told me that if I every wanted to try a new spice, he would certainly let me try it. He also said to call ahead, and ask for special blends. That would be awesome!
I was very impressed with the “Apothecary-style” packaging, throughout the store. These little jars will look great, in The Little Teardrop.
There were also different flavors of honey, lots of tea leaves, pepper grinders, and accessories. And, extracts! Glass bottles with squeeze dropper lids, of flavored extracts… along with a great selection of dried chilies and culinary mushrooms.
There is a huge selection of flavored sea salts and an extensive selection of red and black peppers. There were many I wanted to try. But that day, I just bought my usual pink Himalayan Sea Salt Crystals.
On the next visit, I decided to try the “Ghost Chile Sea Salt”… user beware.
Ghost Chiles are outrageously spicy!
On that first visit, I bought 8 little jars of spices, and 1 large jar of Himalayan Sea Salt Crystals… average price $3.50. My total bill was around $35…tax and everything. He also mentioned that when I got ready to dispose of my old spices, bag them up and bring them to him. He will dispose of them for me and give me a discount on my purchase, that day.
I am THRILLED with this store. Since that first visit (only a few months ago) I have returned to The Spice Agent, about 20-times. I even had to take ChefOnWheels to the store… and he was thrilled with the quality and selection of fresh spices. This is a store that we will both patronize, on a regular basis.
Will have to check this place out if and when we get to Branson this year.
This place is great! Visited in early October. Gonna go back in December, plan on gift shopping.
Tamara, you’re right… it’s an awesome place!
This is the ONLY place in the area that I could find FRESH Juniper Berries for game recipes.
